Changelings on Tour: Charles Yallowitz

Charles Yallowitz

Charles Yallowitz

Day five of the Changelings Blog tour has the amazing scribe of Windemere, Charles Yallowitz, as host.

Like so many, I met Charles and Green Embers right around the same time, and got to know Charles as a varied writer through The Community Storyboard, as well as his own site, The Legends of Windemere.

Let me tell you, Charles has legions of stories hidden away in his soul. And remarkably, he has a story arc and a general idea for most of them (although I suspect there are a few hiding away in the crevices of his mind, waiting to surprise him).

The Legends of Windemere series currently has five books available, which Charles putting out at least three per year since his debut in 2013. To say he is prolific is an understatement. Prolific wishes it was Charles.

On his blog, Charles keeps readers entertained with a variety of posts – from the mechanics of writing and fantasy tropes, to very amusing dalliances amongst the “Ye Olde (Spell/Magic/Assassin/Magical Creature) Shoppe,” which are hilarious.

Charles is also a diligent promoter of other indie authors and I am so very honored to be amongst their number. Thank you so much for the last two years of learning, and inspiration, Charles!

A: Hugh Heffner.

D: . . .

A: I’m kidding – well, not really. It is Mr. Heffner’s birthday today – but you know what all those people have in common, D?

The People's Republic of Helena needs YOU!

helena needs youA: D. D! Wake up, D!

D: Wha-what is it, woman?!

A: We have a job to do.

D: Don’t you always have a job to do? Isn’t that what you claim keeps you in coffee and bandwith?

A: Yes, but this is an even more important job.

D: Oh, pray tell . . .

A: Helena Hann-Basquiat, my very favorite Dilettante (and one of my favorite people, it must be said), needs our help. The gentleman in charge of her Kickstarter campaign had a disaster of swamp-like proportions drive his family out of  house and home. She needs us – and bloggers like us – to spread the word, keep momentum going, and generally save the day so Mr. Squires can focus his energies where they are needed most.

D: So, in other words . . .

A: Aunt Helena Needs YOU.

D: . . . You are very strange.

kickstarter-copyA: I am. But that is beside the point – Helena’s Kickstarter needs you – me – everyone. Whether you’re new to Kickstarter or an old hand, Helena’s project is perfect to back – the book is already written and edited, but by supporting her, you give her the opportunity to get her work in front of people who need to see it. Plus, there are some great prizes to be had!

D: So check out the Kickstarter page, and Helena’s blog, and the work she’s published as Jessica B. Bell, but most importantly, sign up to become part of the People’s Republic of Helena–

A: Because believe me, with Helena at the helm, good times are going to be had by all!

In other News

A: So, elsewhere on the blogosphere. . .

D: You mean I can’t go back to sleep?

A: No – see, when I’m at that ‘job’ thing, which does keep me in coffee and bandwith, then you get to sleep, but when I’m home, I’m somewhat in need of my muse, ergo. . .

D: Ha ha! You just admitted I’m your muse!

A: Seriously, how old are you?

D: 1,345 years old, last August 6 or 19, depending on which calendar one uses.

A: . . .

D: You asked. So, let’s keep this snappy, what else is going on?

A: Right, so – Andra Watkins, she of the Accidental Cootchie Mama fame, has released her book, the oh-so-intriguing, I can’t wait to order it on Thursday, To Live Forever: The Afterlife Journey of Merriweather LewisAnd to promote the launch, she’s walking the Natchez Trace and conducting this incredibly creative contest.

D: Fascinating! Although, can you not attempt to walk in your characters’ footsteps when it comes time to release our book? I think you might drown.

A: Nice, D. . .

D: Just looking out for my author! Speaking of authors (and a prolific one, too) Charles at Legends of Windemere is looking for volunteers for the fourth Windemere book, Family of the Tri-Rune for a blog tour and cover reveal.

A: And finally, because there is no such thing as too much cute, head over to Green Embers and give a big hi to Green, and his new puppy, Nina!

D: That is not a war hound.

A: Not every dog needs to be a war hound, D. Besides, I think Nina looks like she could take care of herself.

D: Perhaps. . . I shall reserve judgement.

A: (Eye roll) How big of you, D. And with that, I bid you all good night – thank you for reading!

Bodacious bard bandies ballads

By Green Embers

By Green Embers

D: Bodacious?

A: You have a problem with bodacious?

D: No, but didn’t it go out of style sometime in the late twentieth century?

A: The time-traveler is worried about going out of style?

D: Well, yes – I’d like to fit in.

A: Fit in? You wear a cloak and carry a big sword and staff for crying out loud.

D: Yes, in your head – but when I was a man-about-town, I always tried to keep abreast of what was fashionable.

A: Dandy.

D: What was that?

A: You heard me. Popinjay.

D: Is it my fault I cut a fine figure?

A: (Eye roll) No – so are you going to bandy ballads or what, you bodacious bard?

D: You are incorrigible.

A: Indeed – take it away, D!

D: If you read this blog, chances are you’re either A) crazy, B) a fan of the written word, or C) a writer yourself—

A: Do they have to be just one of those things?

D: . . . No – likely they’re all three.

A: Likely.

D: In that case, everyone who reads this should be as excited as you and I are to be a part of the Legends of Windemere Blog Tour and Cover Reveal blitz starting November 25. If you would like to feature that truly bodacious scribe, Charles Yallowitz’ third tale in the series, Allure of the Gypsies, head on over to his blog, Legends of Windemere and sign up!

A: Sarah M. Cradit, of . . . And then there was Sarah is also doing a cover reveal for her third book in the House of Crimson and Clover series, The Illusions of Eventide. The reveal is on November 16, so contact Sarah today if you would like to participate.

D: A, why haven’t you watched Game of Thrones yet?

A: Um, that was a quick shift – never hear of transitions, D?

D: . . .

A: Fine. I don’t have cable, and I’m currently blacklisted at the library . . . again.

D: You need to stop doing that.

A: You’re telling me! So no, I haven’t yet indulged in Game of Thrones – why do you ask?

D: Because one of our favorite people, Helena Hann-Basquiat did a wonderful send-up for the Friday Fictioneers.

A: Ah, so it’s Helena’s distinctive voice and knife-edge humor that drew you in, yes?

D: Um. Yes. That’s right.

A: (Eye-roll) Good to know you’re still a guy, D, despite your years.

D: I’m feeling like I should be offended by that.

A: You probably should, but maybe for the sake of brevity, you should let it slide.

D: All right. Just this once.

A: Cheers, D. In other news, There’s a new prompt at the Community Storyboard – check out Julian Froment’s prompt and prose for “Tomorrow.”

D: And the heavens only know if A will actually manage a response to the prompt (lazy wench) but click away below for those who have lent their creativity and prose to the CSB in response to the prompt.

A: You know, I could – there’s always tomorrow…

D: . . .

A: See what I did there, with the—

D: Yes, A. I see.

A: Kill joy.

Well, that’s all for this evening folks – I’ve been a pretty lazy blogger this week. For more outside-world updates, you can catch D and I at Green Embers’ Recommends – we run our shtick on most Fridays and we have some fun ones planned for this Friday. In the meantime, check out GE Recommend’s entertainment reviews – it’s well worth the click!

Six Geese A-Laying

On the sixth day of NaNo, my true muse gave to me

Six books a-writing,

Five Syllables!

Four pumpkin cakes

Three cough drops

Two cuddly cats

And a family that’s dear to me.

***

D: Really, A?

A: What? I am writing six books in the Changelings compendium . . . or four. Depends on how Series 2 turns out.

D: That is not what I’m talking about – and if I know you, that number will change next week, too—

A: No, I’m pretty sure this time—

D: I mean the “a-writing” part A. Is that really what is happening here?

A: Um . . . theoretically.

D: What happened to 500 words a day?

A: Does blogging count?

D: No.

A: Oh. Then I guess under those conditions, no, I haven’t been writing, per say – wait, no, I had a few words written on Monday.

D: . . .

A: Don’t give me that look – it totally counts. And I have a brilliant idea to help me get inside Jenny Mallory’s character (she’s a tough one, even for a secondary character). Add in the three scenes I need to write for Book 1, and I’ll be done with edits.

D: Done? Really?

A: Okay, when I say “done,” I mean there’s the last read-through and edit run before it goes to beta readers, but that’s cleanup. The bulk is almost done.

D: So what are you still doing here? Hm? Time’s a-wasting, A.

A: Are you really tapping your foot at me?

D: Maybe.

A: I’m still here because there’s some fantastic news we need to share.

D: Oh you mean–?

Me and Billy the Kid by Briana Vedsted

Me and Billy the Kid by Briana Vedsted

A: About Briana – and her book, Me and Billy the Kid? Yes, indeed I do!

D: I’m so excited that her book is out! You have to read it, A and give a review.

A: I fully intend to – although I should perhaps leave that to you?

D: If only it were so easy to convince you to do that in all things.

A: Not bloody likely, D.

D: (Ungrateful wench) Did you know that Charles did his first audio interview?

A: (Overbearing Scot) I did – and Dean is looking for some feedback on his latest cover.

D: (Pict) Plus, there are some great reviews over at Green Embers’ Recommends.

liches tale

A Lich’s Tale and Other Stories by Bradley Corbett

A: (Same difference) And that hilarious conversation on Readful Things with his alter-ego to let the world know about his new novella, A Lich’s Tale and Other Stories.

D: (Heathen) Is Bradley the alter-ego, or is it Green?

A: (Thank you) I think it depends on one’s perspective.

D: And you know what my perspective says?

A: I don’t think I want—

D: It says that you should toddle off to bed so you can recover enough energy to finish those edits you keep talking about, woman!

A: There is no distracting you, is there?

D: Not unless—

A: Not unless, what?

D: Not telling.

A: D, come on, you’re killing me! What?

D: Get the book in the hands of beta readers and I might just tell you.

A: Now he gives me incentive. Sheesh! I guess that’s all tonight folks. Thanks for reading!

This is the sixth in a series on my own brand of NaNoWriMo – or rather, my Non-NaNo. One day D’s story will be told, and then what is he going to use to torture me? Stay tuned for what tomorrow will bring in our 30 days of NaNo.
